in“A large part of nurturing a spirit of creativity comes from being mindful, slowing down, observing, and looking around you at the beauty and inspiration all around.” ~ Amanda Blake Soule (AKA SouleMama) from The Creative Family
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This past week has been sublime. The weather has been sunny and dry. I’ve been on a mission to get the attachlings out and playing every day. These beautiful days where we can play and explore without hats, hoods and boots are numbered.
But when I look back on the week I do not feel rushed or pushed or like we were chaotic. Perhaps this is because we spent so much of our week in nature…and 2 of the 5 days playing with friends.
The real revelation, though, is related to the above quote. Though we were occupied, we were not ‘busy.’ We were mindful, observant, meandering and inspired.
Friday was awesome. We went to a park with a small nature center and the attachlings chose going out on trails instead of the playground. I followed, not led. {{{{bliss}}}}
Finding my way by following my heart…instead of looking around to see what other families are doing….so simple, yet revolutionary.
inBeing back home has been glorious. We have been so busy; so much so that we have hardly been home. We’ve visited 4 different parks in 4 days; meeting with treasured friends and making new ones.
Whew!
And I’ve not thought to grab my phone much to take pix. Not sure why…guess I was just too busy chatting with friends, with children, with strangers.
Here’s my favorite photo of the past week nonetheless:
inI’m thinking about those two words today:
Trust
Surrender
What comes to mind? Trust is an easy word to feel good about; it seems like a positive thing. Surrender, though? boy that one can be fraught with negative feelings.
For me this unschooling path is about trust.
I trust that humans are ‘hard-wired’ to learn. (Not necessarily what someone else decides it is time for, though.)
I trust that my attachlings are eager to learn.
But I think that my thoughts need to reach further in; to surrender
Ah, there’s a sticky-wicket.
Surrender conjures images of giving-up, giving-in, becoming passive, acquiescing, allowing oneself, maybe even, to be a victim.
But maybe surrender also means a release.
Don’t all religions speak to a ‘giving up of self to higher purpose, destiny or Power?’
Surrender, in the context that I am coming to view it, isn’t about giving up; it is about relinquishing control and ideas of perfection or ‘shoulds.’
So, really, I’m looking for a word that blends these two: Trust & Surrender
I think I may have found it in the word: EMBRACE
